About the Job:

We are currently seeking an Application Development Manager who will take part in challenging projects such as extending the content and functionality of a clinical research data warehouse, utilizing natural language processing techniques to mine clinical data, and deploying these capabilities across partner institutions. The position will also actively contribute to extending our business intelligence system.
  • Lead the design and architecting of new software components ensuring the use of best practice design patterns
  • Act as a Senior Developer, contributing to the system’s codebase.  80% of this role is coding.
  • Given a set of defined requirements, perform accurate time estimates and create release project plans
  • Throughout the implementation of a task, regularly mentor the assigned developer(s), code review, check for conformance to the spec and design, monitor progress
  • Creation and maintenance of development and code management processes and procedures
  • Oversee the process of quality assurance, software release packaging and release note creation
  •  Line manage the development team (currently 4 developers)
  •  Ensure all newly implemented functionality in the system maintains, or improves upon, existing system performance characteristics

About You:
  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Computer Science, or related field
  • 10+ years experience in IT, Software Development and Technical Team Lead
  • Strong analytic and interpersonal communication skills
  • In depth knowledge of UI design and development using Java/JEE, Spring, Hibernate, HTML, Javascript, and Javascript based libraries (Angular2) as well as Data Visualization Techniques (D3.js)
  • Strong relational and non-relational database development skills
  • Track record managing the software development life cycle end-to-end
  • Experience managing a team to a deadline
  • Project Management/development delivery management skills

Beneficial Experience:
  • HL7 or other novel methods of data manipulation
  • PHP
  • .NET or C#
  • Knowledge of Agile methodology/experience, performing the role of Scrum Master
  • Experience working with researchers
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Good problem solving skills; the ability to diagnose and resolve a complex software fault
